Scientific Programme

Session Types

Allied Health Day
The Allied Health Day enables participants to understand the importance of a complementary framework for Allied Health and Primary Care Practitioners, identify the core competency areas along with possible training needs in their own practice.

Business Meetings (BM)
Business Meetings of EAACI Sections, Interest Groups and Working Groups allow EAACI members to meet and plan their activities and make proposals for future events. Each meeting starts with an academic lecture or debate in order to stimulate participation. These meetings are open to all congress delegates to actively encourage new participants.

Clinical Village
The Clinical Village offers an excellent opportunity for attendees to explore and try different procedures and equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. It provides a perfect platform to discover a combination of both theoretical and practical topics, both for specialists-in-training as well as for clinicians wanting to update themselves on topics adjacent to their core business.

Company Sponsored Mini Symposia (CSMS)
These symposia are compact 30-minute sessions which take place during lunchtime and usually contain expert discussions on a specific topic. The content and speakers of the CSMS are proposed by the sponsor and approved by the Scientific Programme Committee.

Company Sponsored Symposia (CSS)
Certain EAACI Founder Sponsors are entitled to host a Company Sponsored Symposium within the main congress programme. The content and speakers of these symposia are proposed directly by the Founder Sponsors and approved by the Scientific Programme Committee prior to inclusion within the main programme.

EAACI Course
EAACI Courses are full-day sessions where an expert in the specialty of Immunology and Allergy gives a series of interactive lectures. These sessions provide a thorough topic review and promote peer to peer learning and networking.

Ethics Session
Ethics Sessions are state of the art symposia in which the speakers critically review ethical aspects of topics related to Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The target audience consists of delegates who are primarily interested in the subject or wish to update their knowledge in the area.

Hot Topic (HT)
Hot Topic Sessions consist of presentations followed by a discussion. Topics are selected close to the time of the congress, with the goal of presenting new and exciting data in a more informal format than a typical session. Hot Topic Sessions allow members to gain insight into the latest news and findings in allergy and clinical immunology.

Highlights Sessions
Highlights Sessions are short and concise sessions which are compiled by the Scientific Programme Committee. The sessions highlight the most relevant talks of a certain topic and recap on significant results from other sessions.

Interactive Workshops (IWS)
Interactive Workshops are sessions in which speakers share and discuss evidence and experience gathered - clinical and/or basic - in a certain field. These sessions are highly interactive and include a number of communication techniques to involve participants. Due to this interactive character, the size of the session is limited, and it is advisable to arrive early to secure your place.

Interactive Symposium (ISYM)
The Interactive Symposium will allow time for debate, discussion and feedback about the presentations. Chairs and speakers play an active role in engaging the audience using interactive methods appropriate for large groups. This innovative format and session design techniques contribute to a dynamic and communicative symposium.

Interactive Postgraduate Courses (IPGC) - Pre-registration is required. A separate registration fee applies.
Interactive Postgraduate Courses are half-day sessions where speakers give presentations the necessary space for discussions. They are designed to provide a thorough review of a special interest area and enhance peer to peer learning and networking. The use of contextualisation further improves learning.
  • Interactive Postgraduate Courses can be at the basic level or advanced level.
  • Interactive Postgraduate Courses are merged with visits to the Clinical Village, where attendees can actively try out different procedures and equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.

Late Breaking Oral Abstract Sessions (LB OAS)
The most exciting work from late breaking abstracts submitted to the congress will be honoured with a place in these sessions, which starts with a brief introductory talk from one of the chairs. Each presenter highlights their work and answers questions from attendees.

Late Breaking Poster Discussion Sessions (LB PDS)
Moderators will lead a discussion of around 15 related electronic posters in the session, asking the audience and the presenters to set the work in context and draw out important themes and conclusions. These sessions will be in an electronic format.

Late Breaking Thematic Poster Session (LB TPS)
Late breaking abstracts are grouped thematically into blocks of 15-20 posters. As part of the EAACI Goes Green Initiative, these will be in an electronic format at E-Poster stations, which are open to view for a whole day. At lunch time, presenters are available to discuss their work and answer questions from delegates and moderators.

Learning Lounges (LL) - Pre-registration is required. A separate registration fee applies.
Learning Lounges allow delegates to meet in a small group with outstanding researchers and clinicians. The format is designed to facilitate informal discussions, allowing participants to present their questions and gain new insights. No presentations will be given, instead the participants will have ample time for interaction with the faculty member and their peers.

Luso-Brazilian Day
A half day will be dedicated to the XVIII Luso-Brazilian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SLBAIC) meeting. Delegates will be able to attend symposia and interactive sessions, held in Portuguese language by outstanding local and Brazilian speakers. The first symposia will focus on practical clinical aspects of Food Allergy and the second on Asthma heterogeneity throughout the life cycle.

Oral Abstract Sessions (OAS)
The most exciting work from abstracts submitted to the congress will be honoured with a place in these sessions, which start with a brief introductory talk from one of the chairs. Each presenter highlights their work and answers questions from attendees.

Patent Abstract Sessions
Novel innovations in Allergy and Clinical Immunology that are in the process or have been successfully patented are presented in the Patent Abstract Session. These are discussed in the Poster Discussion Session (PDS) format. This scientific session will promote collaborations and potential joint ventures between academia and industry.

Plenary Symposia (PL)
Plenary Symposia are the core of the congress activities. These are exhaustive reviews of a major subject of the specialty, addressed to all congress participants. Plenary Symposia are scheduled at “prime times” in the programme, with no crossover with other activities to enable maximum attendance. Two parallel symposia will be held, one primarily clinical and the other focused on basic science. Leading international speakers have been invited to conduct these symposia. Given the large nature, Plenary Symposia do not have allocated time for questions or discussions.

Poster Discussion Sessions (PDS)
Moderators will lead a discussion of around 15 related electronic posters in the session, asking the audience and the presenters to set the work in context and draw out important themes and conclusions. These sessions will be in an electronic format and will take place in four designated PDS Zones in the Exhibition Hall. Moreover, in each e-Poster area there is a Poster Help Desk.

Pro & Con (P&C)
The Pro & Con Sessions allow speakers to debate controversial topics in an attractive format which provides “food for thought”. These lunch time sessions take place in the exhibition hall.

Satellite Symposia (SAT)
Satellite Symposia commence once the main programme has concluded for the day. These symposia are organised independently by the sponsoring companies who also select the topics and speakers which are approved by the Scientific Programme Committee.

Sister Society Symposia (SSS)
EAACI has collaborated with a number of sister societies to develop symposia that represent regional or scientific areas common to EAACI and the sister society. This is a chance to expand your knowledge beyond the traditional boundaries.

Symposia (SYM)
Symposia are state-of-the-art educational sessions in which the speakers critically review diverse aspects of a specific topic. The target audience consists of delegates who are primarily interested in the subject or wish to update their knowledge in the area.

Thematic Symposia (TS)
The Thematic Symposia are theme-based, cutting-edge and educational sessions in which the speakers critically highlight novel breakthroughs specific to the theme. The target audience consists of delegates who are interested in the topic and wish to update their knowledge in the area.

Thematic Poster Session (TPS)
Abstracts are grouped thematically into blocks of 15-20 posters. As part of the EAACI Goes Green Initiative, these will be in an electronic format at E-Poster stations, which are open to view for a whole day. At lunch time, presenters are available to discuss their work and answer questions from delegates and moderators.

Year in Review (YIR)
The Year in Review Sessions are complete and authoritative, focused on the highlights published during the previous year on a specific topic.
